Black keepers in the Premier League

We asked Jamal who were the keepers he looked up to as a kid and today as a professional. Cech came first but he also mentionned Yves Ma-Kalambay and David James. Two of the first black goalkeepers in the Premier League. They were huge inspirations for Jamal, as he was the only black goalkeeper at the academy. 

In the 80s and 90s racism was still common especially in football. It was in 1885 that Arthur Wharton became the pioneer while playing for Darlington. Widely considered to be the first professional black player in the world. Both Alex Williams and Clayton Ince were the next in the 80s. At this time they were few goalkeeping role model for black youngsters. Luckily, Jamal Blackman was inspired by James and Ma-Kalambay who followed Williams and Ince example.   

Five black goalkeepers currently play in England's top tier. Watford's keepers Gomes has a respected status at Vicarage Road. Steven Mandanda for Crystal Palace. The frenchman joined The Eagles during the summer. Lee Grant at Stoke is another addition. He took his chance after Butland's injury. Darren Randolph for West Ham and Spurs' Michel Vorm end the list.

But will the presence of black keepers in the Premier League continue to grow ? 

The time will come when a black British goalkeeper is discussed for the national team. Will Jamal Blackman be the next ?
